in all seasons Atypus karschi (Atypidae) [Japanese name : ji-gumo]
When you find a sac that is attached to the base of stone walls, paving stones, trees of an old house, a Buddhist temple, or a Shinto shrine, that is the home of A.karschi. The sac is elongated and varies in length, from about 10 or more in centimeters length to shorter ones, and from about 1cm in diameter to thinner ones. When an insect touches the sac, the spider dashes out from the sac, catches it and takes its prey into the sac. The length is 17-20mm. It is found throughout Japan.
